FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 First to Measure End-to-End E-Business Transaction Response Time
Only Traffic Management Product to Measure E-Business "Session Latency" and Schedule Traffic Based on Web Services Standards

GARTNER SYMPOSIUM/ITxpo, ORLANDO, FL, Oct. 9, 2001 — Resonate Inc. (NASDAQ: RSNT), the leading provider of active service level management solutions for e-business applications, today unveiled new and unique enhancements to Resonate Central Dispatch™, an intelligent LAN-based software traffic management product. E-businesses rely on Resonate Central Dispatch for high availability and performance of their e-business applications. Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 is the first traffic management product to assess and utilize real-time "session latency", the period of time from when a user makes an Internet request to when the content is delivered. Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 also allows unprecedented traffic management control based on Web Services standards like Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and XML.

Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 software collects fine-grained detail on CPU load and server health, while testing network latency and other pre-defined metrics to determine session latency. Based on the data collected, Resonate Central Dispatch enables the detection of bottlenecks with the delivery of an IP-based request and accurately determines the performance of an e-business transaction. Central Dispatch can then control user traffic and direct users to the most available resources for the service being accessed.

As enterprises begin building applications on Web Services standards, Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 provides the added capability to schedule traffic based on any TCP-based or IP-based protocols, including SOAP, XML, WAP gateways, etc. Unlike closed traffic management hardware devices, Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 is able to examine any piece of data in an end-user's Internet request, providing user-specific and application-specific information. Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 allows enterprises to direct traffic based on who the user is, what application they are trying to access and by what medium they are accessing that information. Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 also intelligently distributes traffic across multiple firewall, cache, or similar network appliances. Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 supports UDP traffic scheduling including streaming media, voice-over-IP, DNS and proprietary protocols.

"Assessing and understanding the greatest amount of information about users, applications and performance potential is critical in assuring e-business service levels, " said Karen Barnes, vice president of product development at Resonate. "By taking traffic management to the next step, our customers can be confident that the most appropriate resources are allocated for the right users, in the right situations. Our software monitors important e-business data from the request of the first byte of information to the delivery of the last byte. "
